Cardiorenal and metabolic diseases represent a constellation of lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol use, poor nutrition, sedentary behavior) and health conditions (hypertension, insulin resistance, obesity, dyslipidemia) that contribute to worsening overall health, and can manifest as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease or chronic kidney disease. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common metabolic disorder predisposing to diabetic cardiomyopathy and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD), which could lead to heart failure through a variety of mechanisms, including myocardial infarction and chronic pressure overload.
The main goal is to understand and treat the patient as a whole; realizing the interconnectedness of cardiorenal metabolic risk.
